  1. Jaap Says:

    Dear Lisbeth fans,
because we are crazy about the books, AND about Sweden, we must know where EXACTLY Hedestad and Hedeby are. Stig used places he once visited, so there must be a town that “is” Hedestad. HELP!!!!

  2. Chris Says:

Hedestad and Hedeby Island are fictional places, but the filming location was Gnesta in Sweden. Help enough? :-)

  3. Craig Says:

What do we know about Hedestad?
    – Mikael says it is about 3hrs from Stockholm by train (1hr north of Gävle)
    – Population is around 24k
    – It is near the E4 (from Lisbeth’s bike chase)
By my reckoning, if it did exist, Hedestad would have to be somewhere near Sundsvall.
Are you going to go there and try to find it..? ;)

  4. Chris Says:

Haha, if you transfer about a 100 bucks to my account. From Copenhagen to Stockholm is about a 6 hour train ride, and then 3 hours further north (?) – phew! That’s gonna cost, and I don’t have a Henrik Vanger as my sugar daddy :-)

    But I sometimes wish …

  5. Craig Says:

I’m planning to do a motorbike trip next year through Norway and Sweden.
I might have to make a detour and check it out myself… :D

  6. Darryl Lee Says:

Hey – love the site. I’m reading “Fire” right now and am trying to create a Google Map of the major locations so I can a broad overview of the major locations (Eskende, Sally’s Apartment, the Warehouse, etc.)

I stumbled upon a nice set of Stockholm locations put together by the Sheraton Stockholm. Hilariously, they’ve put together a “Millennium Experience” package that includes a guide book, free coffee break at Mellqvist Kaffebar (“often visited by the characters of the books”), and of course, accommodation at the Sheraton Stokholm (“Harriet Vanger and Mikael Blomkvists preferred hide-away.”)

A little cheesey, to be sure, but the map is publicly available and very well-documented. Here’s the package deal: http://agencydominion.com/clients/sheraton_stockholm_millenium/

    And more importantly, the map:

  7. Darryl Lee Says:

Here’s my map — still working on it:

  8. Chris Says:

Yes, I know the Sheraton map but I’d much rather read a more detailed nerdy fan-map! Any chance we might be allowed to integrate it on these pages, here on sallys? (If you say no, I’ll send Niedermannm after you!!) :-)

  9. Darryl Lee Says:

Would love to be included here. Here’s a more succinct link, and if you send me an e-mail, I can send you the embed code from Google Maps.

  10. Chris Says:

It’s chris_at_sallysfriends.net – ! I will wait night and day for this one :-) Thanks again, mate!

  11. hhgygy Says:

Please tell me which is the bridge they pass several times in the movie and on which the accident occurs

  12. Chris Says:

It’s “Hjulstabron” which is situated on road 55 between Strängnäs and Enköping. It has a sailingfree space of 6 meters and a rotating section for the bigger vessels. It were closed for the filming on 8 april 2008 between 14.00 and 19.30

(Thanks to Erik Ingendoh for this info! :-) )

  13. Stone Says:

Behind the times I know…live in a bit of an opaque cultural bubble. Got the trilogy for Christmas 2010, read them non-stop, and have just watched the first film…just amazing, have fallen for Sally completely head-over-heels and would love to help her use Wennestrom’s billions – for Amazon-friendly purposes, of course Anyway my question is this: does anyone else think the church spire in picture 167 is actually in the film location used for Hedestad?

  14. erik ingendoh Says:

Yes if you mean the scen were Mikael Blomkvist stands on the platform, with the church spire in the background to the left, then it is “Frustuna kyrka”, which is one of many churches in Gnesta

  15. hhgygy Says:

Hey man, you made my day do you know that?
